Language Of Bangladesh

Bangla is among the ten most spoken languages in the world and is the national language of Bangladesh. Bangladesh literally means "Country of Bangla".

At one point in the history of Bangladesh, it became unlawful for Bengali speaking people to speak their mother tongue. After protesting that led to an unfortunate loss of patriotic lives, known as the Language Movement, that law was revoked. Since speaking this language is an earned right, till this day, people are very proud of using Bangla as a first language to express themselves.

There are similarities between Hindi and Bangla, because both were derived from Sanskrit. There is a lot of influence from English due to the period of British colonization during the 19th century. It is also influenced by the Portuguese who were among the first Europeans to come to Bengal.
