Currency of Bangladesh: Taka (BDT)

There are two types of currency: Paper notes and coins.

Notes: one taka, two taka, five taka, ten taka, twenty taka, fifty taka, one hundred taka, five hundred taka and one thousand taka note. Notes from five taka to one thousand take are issued by Bangladesh Bank.

Coins: one poisha, five poisha, ten poisha, twenty-five poisha, fifty poisha, one taka and five taka. One taka and two taka notes and all the coins are issued by Bangladesh Government.

 

Banking hours:
10 am to 4pm, Sunday to Thursdays
They are closed on weekends: Fridays and Saturdays

Some of the international banks are open half day on Saturdays, such as HSBC.

You can draw cash with your Visa, Visa Plus, Visa Electron, MasterCard, Maestro, American Express and Amex cards at a host of ATMs around the major cities.

The map will show you locations of these ATMs. Some ATM machines have caps on withdrawal amounts in a single transaction, so multiple withdrawals may be necessary.

Major credit cards are accepted in the upscale stores of Dhaka and Chittagong. In Dhaka, you will particularly find such stores in the Gulshan, Dhanmondi and Banani areas.

 

Standard Chartered ATMs

England’s Standard Chartered Bank ATMs are a common sight in Dhaka.  They’re always open and you can withdraw up to Tk 50000 a day. But you can’t withdraw more than Tk 20000 at once.

HSBC

BRAC Bank

BRAC Bank is a very popular social development bank in Bangladesh, with branches all over Asia and Africa. You’ll come across BRAC ATMs all over Bangladesh.
