Only around 18% of the population (25% in urban areas and 10% in rural areas) has access to electricity. Noncommercial energy sources, such as wood, animal wastes, and crop residues, are estimated to account for over half of the country's energy consumption.

Electricity in Bangladesh is 220 Volts, alternating at 50 cycles per second. If you travel to Bangladesh with a device that does not accept 220 Volts at 50 Hertz, you will need a voltage converter. Travel adapters will allow you to plug in, but they do not modify the electricity at all. A step-down transformer is needed to convert the 220 volt electricity in Bangladesh to 110-120 volts.

Plug your appliance into the outlet on the step-down transformer
