A meal at a Bangladeshi table is usually served buffet style. It tantalizes all the senses with the rich colors of individual seasonal vegetables, fishes and meats. Our staple food is rice and fish.
- Our national fish is Hilsa. Its a freshwater fish with flaky white meat and very thin bones. The flavor is unlike other fishes and some of the beloved preparations are deep fried, smoked or steamed in a banana leaf with mustard.
- Our vegetables are prepared with little spices, taking care to retain the natural colors and flavors. One way to enjoy the best of all flovors is to try the vegetables first, followed by fish and then meats.
- Chittagong is famous for red looking curries that are not necessarily hot. They use special red chillies called Hatajari.
- In the villages of Sylhet, they serve hot beef curries cooked in special limes. They are also famous for their teas.
